$6 Million California Smash Pickleball Club Unveils Game-Changing Social Hub in El Segundo

California Smash Pickleball Club Launch: Pickleball’s rapid rise continues with the launch of California Smash Pickleball and Social Club in El Segundo. The indoor venue, which opens its courts to members on Monday, September 1, 2025, features nine padded courts, sports bars, eateries, and special event spaces.

A $6 Million Transformation

The facility was once a 30,000-square-foot warehouse before being renovated for about $6 million. Founder Brett Drogmund described the space as an “entertainment hub” offering “perfect lighting, perfect temperature, 365 days a year.”

Sport for All Ages

“Pickleball, as they say, is the sport for everybody,” Brett Drogmund said. “You can play if you are 8 years old or 80. It’s the fastest growing sport in the country, simply because after playing it for one day you actually feel like you’ve made an improvement. It’s very easy to pick up.”

The club is designed to be both social and competitive. “California Smash is 50% social club, 50% pickleball,” Brett Drogmund said. Players can join by membership or book courts by the hour.

Long-Term Commitment

Brett Drogmund noted that the group signed a 10-year lease with two additional 10-year options, showing a strong commitment to staying in the community.

The growth of pickleball in schools is also adding momentum. “The sport is growing in high school and colleges,” Brett Drogmund said, adding that scholarships are now being offered and technology is expanding the game’s reach.

Expanding Retail and Gear

The club will include a retail area for paddles and gear. “We’re gonna have this great retail space here with all of our own gear paddles,” Brett Drogmund said. “The paddles are a $2 billion a year business. If you’re a serious pickleball player, it’s like your bowling ball in the 70s. You want to bring your own paddle.”

Not Just a Trend

Brett Drogmund dismissed the idea that pickleball is a passing fad. “It’s not like racquetball in the 70s, this is going to stay, it’s only growing,” he said.

What’s Next

Open play begins in late September, with a full restaurant opening planned for October. The club is expected to become a major hub for both players and fans.
