Stockholm Pickleball Court Community Upgrade: The town of Stockholm is adding new pickleball courts as part of a larger project to improve local recreational spaces. The upgrades aim to give residents more options for outdoor activity and create a safe place for people of all ages to enjoy the sport close to home.
Pickleball Courts and Community Benefits
Town Board Member Jed Arquitt said the project started as a way to provide residents with fun activities without leaving town. “Whether it’s pickleball, basketball or street hockey in the warmer months or hockey or skating in the colder months, we hope to see more people come to Stockholm and enjoy what we have to offer,” Arquitt said.
Arquitt added, “We need a place in the town where our kids can go and play that is a few minutes from our homes, get them off their phones and devices and bring the community closer.”
Funding and Construction
Funding for the pickleball courts and other improvements comes from a $15,000 donation through the Lalonde Initiative. Materials are donated by Jim Sheehan of J.E. Sheehan Corporation, with trucking support from Cody Russell of Rocking C Trucking.
Arquitt said the Highway Department, led by Superintendent Ethan Cheney, is overseeing construction. “Ethan and the whole department are making great progress on it all. We’re really excited to see the finished product. I think it’s going to be great for everyone involved. They’re making quick work of it,” Arquitt said.
The pickleball courts are expected to be completed by mid-September, just in time for students returning to school.
