Rochester Eyes Major Upgrades for Cook Park Pickleball Courts—Will Rising Costs Halt the Project?

Cook Park Pickleball Court Upgrades: The City of Rochester is moving ahead with plans to improve the pickleball courts at Cook Park. While the final design is not yet complete, city officials confirmed that they will work with the local pickleball group to make sure the project meets community needs.

Planning and Costs

The exact upgrades for the Cook Park courts have not been decided. The Parks Board is reviewing designs and cost estimates before making a final choice. City officials said that both the city and the pickleball group are concerned about the current estimated costs.

“So right now we have an estimated cost that is higher than either of us want. We’re hoping the design comes forward and estimates may come out as to the design that will be more reflective of what we hope to be for price, but if not, we will make a decision when the design is done and make the decision whether to go forward with the project or not,”

said Mike Nigbur, the city’s Park and Forestry Division Head.

Other Board Decisions

The Parks Board also discussed another proposal involving Cascade Lake Park. A petition was submitted to allow a mobile sauna at the park. After review, the board decided to deny the request.

What Happens Next

Once the design plans for Cook Park are ready, the city will decide whether to continue with construction. If the costs are within reach, the project will move forward to improve the courts for the growing number of pickleball players in Rochester.
