Dink Out Domestic Violence Fundraiser: A pickleball fundraiser called Dink Out Domestic Violence brought in nearly $60,000 on Friday, August 15, at Sea Colony in Bethany Beach. The money will support Delaware Womenade, a nonprofit that helps women and children in crisis.
Event Purpose
The event’s name plays on the pickleball term “dink out,” which means hitting the ball out of bounds. Organizers tied the idea to the hope that domestic violence will soon be considered “out of bounds.” Delaware Womenade, founded in 2010, works with People’s Place in Milford to provide safe housing and other aid for families facing abuse.
Organizers and Community Support
The fundraiser was organized and run by Robin Procida, Leanne Glueck, Diane Thometz, and Maria Vershel. Dozens of local pickleball players joined in to support the cause through matches and donations.
Words of Gratitude
On behalf of Delaware Womenade, Teresa Zatcoff thanked everyone who contributed. She said,
“Our mission is to inspire families and youth, to transition into their next phase of growth and independence safely. We are beyond grateful to everyone who participated, including donors, sponsors, volunteers, and the incredible committee.”
Importance of the Event
The fundraiser not only raised a large amount of money but also brought attention to the issue of domestic violence. Organizers hope this effort will inspire more community action and help families find safety and support.
