Jack Mahon Park Pickleball Court Proposal: A group of Suntree residents is urging the Suntree Master Homeowners Association Board of Directors to build new pickleball and tennis courts at Jack Mahon Park. The request comes after a court at the park was closed in 2024 following noise complaints and Brevard County Code Enforcement issues.
Residents Call for Action
About 30 members of the Suntree Pickleball Association want 50 to 100 residents to attend an upcoming board meeting to push for the new courts.
“Suntree Master Homeowners Association is one of the biggest homeowners associations in Florida, and yet we have no public facilities to play pickleball,”
said Jim Brang, a resident of The Villas of Suntree.
Background on the Closure
A tennis and pickleball court built in 2017 at Jack Mahon Park, located at 7550 Spyglass Hill Road, was closed permanently last December. Brang explained,
“Pickleball started taking off pretty good around 2021 or 2022. And the more people played, the better they got. The harder you hit the ball, the louder the noise.”
Proposal for New Courts
As a solution, Brang and the group suggest building two fenced-in courts at the west end of the park’s youth soccer field. One would serve as a tennis court that could convert into two pickleball courts, while the other would include two permanent pickleball courts. Brang said the site would still leave room for three soccer fields, which he noted are rarely used since the COVID-19 pandemic and nearby parking restrictions.
He also argued that this plan would place the courts farther from nearby homes compared to Suntree Interlachen Park, where the board is considering a multisport facility if a temporary pickleball setup proves successful.
Ongoing Discussions
The HOA board has said little about the closed court. Kaye McKinney, general manager of the Suntree Master Homeowners Association, confirmed there has been no change in its status. At a construction committee meeting on July 16, members reviewed cost estimates for two courts at Interlachen Park and discussed possible scheduling systems for players.
Community Impact
Brang noted that nearby courts are crowded. “All the facilities are so full,” he said. He added that pickleball helps bring people together, promotes fitness, and offers safe outdoor activity for all ages. In a Facebook post, he wrote,
“Let’s remind SMHOA what Jack Mahon Park used to be — a place full of life, laughter and friendly competition. Let’s bring it back.”
News in Brief: Jack Mahon Park Pickleball Court Proposal
Suntree residents are asking the Suntree Master Homeowners Association to build new pickleball and tennis courts at Jack Mahon Park after a court was shut down in 2024. The group suggests building courts near the soccer fields, saying it would boost recreation and help meet the rising demand for pickleball.
