PickleBrawl Returns: Salem’s Epic Pickleball Showdown Promises Cash Prizes, Live Action, and Community Spotlight

The PickleBrawl in the Blue Ridge will be held from September 12–14, 2025, at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia. Registration closes on September 7 at 11:55 p.m. EST, with an entry fee of $55. The event is part of the Atlantic Union Bank Performance Series and will feature top-level competition with cash prizes for open division winners.

Background and Partnerships

Performance Pickleball, the City of Salem, and Visit Virginia’s Blue Ridge are once again teaming up to host the tournament. The event follows last year’s debut, which marked the first sanctioned pickleball competition in the region.

Organizers say their goal is to spotlight Salem, known as “Virginia’s Championship City,” and to showcase the surrounding region, including Roanoke, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Appalachian Trail, and other attractions.

Tournament Schedule

Matches will take place on 13 newly renovated outdoor courts at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex. The event begins on September 12 with men’s, women’s, and mixed split-age doubles, followed by a welcome party from 6 to 10 p.m.

On September 13, men’s and women’s doubles will be held, and on September 14, mixed doubles will close the event. A detailed bracket schedule will be released the week of the tournament.

Divisions and Formats

Age groups include 19+, 30+, 40+, 50+, and 60+. Split-age divisions require one player under 50 and one over 50. Skill levels are divided into 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, and open categories. The minimum age to participate is 12, with exceptions allowed upon request.

Open divisions in men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles will offer prize money to the top three finishers. Medal matches in these divisions will be livestreamed daily.

Round robin play will determine standings in most divisions, with single-elimination and medal matches afterward. Open division brackets will follow a double-elimination format.

Registration and Fees

The registration fee includes a free t-shirt and sponsor giveaways. Event costs vary: $10 per split-age event, $15 per skill and age event, and $30 per open division event. A non-refundable service fee of $5 per event, or a $10 maximum, also applies.

Priority will be given to doubles teams that have both partners registered. Teams missing one or both partners will be waitlisted until complete.

Ratings and Rules

This is a non-sanctioned tournament, but all matches will follow USA Pickleball 2025 rules. DUPR ratings will be used, and all results will be automatically recorded in the system. Organizers may combine divisions or adjust formats depending on registration numbers.

Refund Policy

The cancellation deadline for a full refund, minus service fees, is August 31. No refunds will be given after this date unless approved by the tournament director under special circumstances.

Importance of the Tournament

The PickleBrawl is more than just a competition—it is designed to grow pickleball in Virginia’s Blue Ridge while drawing attention to local communities and attractions. With prize money, livestream coverage, and part of a larger performance series, the event strengthens the region’s place in the national pickleball scene.
