Swing for Scholarships: Join Jefferson’s Pickleball Tournament with a Purpose!

Pickleball Fundraiser for Education: PEO Chapter CZ will host its 2nd Annual “Pickleball for a Purpose” fundraiser on Saturday, September 13, at 9 a.m. The event will take place at the pickleball and tennis courts at Russell Park in Jefferson. All money raised will go toward scholarships for women continuing their education.

Event Open to All Skill Levels

Organizer Jean Van Gilder said the tournament is open to players of all abilities. She explained that some participants already know the sport, while others may be new and want to learn. “There will be a group that knows how to play and possess the skill of pickleball, while also catering to those who have an interest but do not necessarily know the rules or how to play,” Van Gilder said.

Registration and Fees

The cost to join is $20 per two-person team. Van Gilder shared that every dollar will go to Chapter CZ scholarships, which are awarded to women who had their education interrupted or want to continue studying after high school. She encouraged people to register early by contacting her at 515-370-1414 or by filling out a form at the Greene County Community Center.

Weather Plans

In case of bad weather, the tournament will move indoors to the community center. “Van Gilder appreciates advance registrations by contacting her at 515-370-1414 or there is a form at the Greene County Community Center that people can fill out as well,” the organizer said.

Why It Matters

The event not only promotes pickleball but also helps women in the community achieve their educational goals. By combining fun with fundraising, the tournament gives residents a chance to support a meaningful cause while enjoying a growing sport.
