The $25,000 project was approved by Killeen’s city council in partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife. The grant reimburses 50 percent of the cost, or $12,500. Renovations include resurfacing, net installation, court furniture setup, and proper curing of the new pickleball surface to ensure safe play.

Pickleball has quickly grown in popularity across Killeen. Antonio Murphy, Executive Director of Parks & Recreation, said, “Pickleball has grown tremendously in Killeen, and our community has been asking for more opportunities to play. This project adds to our recreation options and strengthens community connections.”
How Pickleball is Played
Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. Players use a solid paddle to hit a hollow ball with holes over a net onto the opponent’s side. The game is easy to learn and can be played by people of all ages and skill levels.
