James Bond Villain Battles Florida Pickleball Courts Over Neighborhood Noise

Florida Pickleball Court Controversy: Actor Robert Davi, known for roles in The Goonies, Die Hard, Inside Man, and as Franz Sanchez in the 1989 James Bond film License to Kill, has filed a lawsuit against a local homeowners association. The suit, filed on August 15, challenges plans to convert existing tennis courts into a pickleball facility.

The lawsuit argues that nearby homes would be exposed to constant noise from pickleball games, which often begin at dawn and continue for hours. Davi appeared before the Hillsborough County Commission to demonstrate the sound, mimicking the “pong, pong, pong” of balls hitting paddles.

Concerns Over Noise and Location

Robert Davi has emphasized that his objection is to the location of the courts, not to the sport itself. He told commissioners,

“I could spend three minutes doing that. Would you like that next to your community? We need you guys to step up. We need you to really put in an ordinance.”

Other residents in the upscale neighborhood have voiced similar concerns. One said,

“This tennis court pickleball initiative is basically turning your neighbors, into your enemies.”

Another resident added,

“My concern is the acoustics associated with the game. My concern about it is the hours that they will be allowed to play that sport. It’s early morning into the night.”

Community Debate Continues

The proposed pickleball facility has sparked debate over noise, timing, and the impact on neighborhood life. While some welcome the new recreational option, others fear it will disrupt the peace that residents currently enjoy. The lawsuit and community feedback highlight tensions between development and maintaining neighborhood tranquility.

The outcome of the case could influence future recreational projects in Apollo Beach and other communities considering pickleball or similar sports facilities near homes.
