North Raleigh Pickleball Mega-Complex: Chris Mitscherlich, warehouse owner and founder of The Underground at 2806 Gresham Lake Road, plans to build a 160,000-square-foot indoor pickleball facility in north Raleigh. The $15 million project, described as the “largest indoor pickleball facility in the world,” is expected to open by the end of 2026.
The facility will sit on a 7.81-acre property, for which Mitscherlich is seeking rezoning approval from the City of Raleigh. The new complex will include 44 pickleball courts, four sand volleyball courts, and four badminton courts.
Additional Features and Amenities
Beyond sports, the facility will offer a bar serving alcoholic beverages, food options, and retail space. Recovery amenities such as a sauna and cold plunge are planned. A community green space will feature gardens, live music, and food trucks.
Economic and Community Impact
Management says the project will create more than 100 new jobs for the local community. The complex aims to be not only a sports destination but also a social and recreational hub for Raleigh residents.
The facility is expected to draw pickleball players from across the Triangle area and potentially beyond, raising the profile of the sport in North Carolina.
