Jackson County Pickleball Court Upgrade: Jackson County will add new pickleball courts at Grass Lake County Park in Grass Lake Township. The Jackson County Board of Commissioners approved a bid with Tarkett Sports Construction on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. The project will replace old tennis courts with two dedicated pickleball courts and one multi-use court for pickleball.
Growing Popularity of Pickleball
Parks Director Kyle Lewis said the existing tennis courts are “in rough shape.” He added, “We have just found that pickleball is becoming more popular than tennis, but there still looks like there is a need for tennis courts in the area. We want to do both out there.”
Project Costs and Construction
The county received three bids ranging from $384,110 to $531,631. The lowest bid was recommended, with a total project cost of $393,200. The plan also includes a sidewalk connecting the parking lot to the new pickleball courts. Construction will begin in the fall of 2025 and is expected to finish in spring 2026.
Community Benefits
Grass Lake County Park covers nine acres and offers picnic areas, grills, a shelter, playgrounds, restrooms, a boat launch, and a swimming area. The addition of pickleball courts provides modern recreational options and accommodates the growing interest in the sport among residents.
