Purple Pickleball Tournament for Domestic Violence Prevention: The Purple Door will host its 2nd annual Purple Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, September 27, at Al Kruse Tennis and Pickleball Center, 502 King Street, Corpus Christi, Texas. Proceeds will benefit The Purple Door, a nonprofit dedicated to ending domestic violence and sexual assault. Registration is open through September 23.
Tournament Details and Schedule
The event features competitive and casual play for adults ages 18 and older. Tournament play begins at 9 a.m., with registration starting at 8 a.m. Mixed doubles matches start at 11:30 a.m., with registration opening at 10:30 a.m. Participants can also volunteer and enjoy activities like a DJ, vendors, and food trucks.
Community Support and Participation
Frances Wilson, President and CEO of the Women’s Shelter of South Texas, said, “Pickleball is very popular, and I think this reaches maybe a different group of people that hadn’t been involved with the agency before. We’re also very fortunate that Steel Dynamics is our presenting sponsor. We have a lot of great sponsors this year, so, uh, we’re really excited.”
Wilson added that the event will include a silent auction and door prizes. Organizers hope to attract more participants this year and offer a fun, engaging experience while raising awareness for domestic violence prevention.
The tournament provides an opportunity for the community to support a vital cause while enjoying a day of sports, music, and social interaction.
