NYC Parks Opens New Pickleball Court in Whitestone: NYC Parks has announced the opening of a new standalone pickup court at Francis Lewis Park in Whitestone has been announced by NYC Parks. On July 15, NYC Parks Queens Borough Commissioner Jackie Langsam and Council Member Vickie Paladino attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the $13,500 project.
“Francis Lewis Park is a vital greenspace and activity hub for Whitestone residents. The addition of a pickleball court enhances the park’s amenities and provides a dedicated space for this popular sport. As pickleball grows in popularity, we aim to ensure there are ample facilities for residents to stay active and engaged.” – (Langsam)
The new court, located at 3rd Avenue between Parsons Boulevard and 147th Street, repurposes an underutilized area of the park into a shaded, full-sized pickleball court. This development is part of a larger effort to upgrade park facilities throughout Queens.
“I’m proud to deliver this new pickleball court to Whitestone residents. With the sports coating added, the court is ready for use. I look forward to seeing it in regular use and hope to see similar improvements in other parks across District 19.” – (Council Member Paladino)
This new court follows the recent $1 million renovation of the Francis Lewis Park plaza, which included new granite features, colored pavers, benches, game tables, and plantings. Other recent park upgrades in Queens include converting a tennis court to pickleball courts in Louis Pasteur Park, recoating courts in Crocheron Park, and updating the basketball court in Frank Golden Park.
