Westport Greenlights New Tennis and Pickleball Courts: Westport is set to see several significant improvements following recent approvals from the Board of Selectwomen. At the board’s July 24 meeting, contract bids were approved for new sidewalks, parks, and tennis/pickleball courts, marking a major step in the town’s development plans.
The approved projects include the installation of new sidewalks along Cross Highway, from North Street to Bayberry Lane. “This will enhance safety on Cross Highway and improve the intersection with Bayberry Lane.” said Deputy Town Engineer Matthew Niski. The sidewalks will also feature pedestrian improvements such as crosswalks and flashing beacons to alert drivers.
In addition to the sidewalk project, the town will develop a comprehensive parks master plan and replace the Doubleday Courts, which will include upgrades to accommodate tennis and pickleball. The department is also working on replacing a bridge at Deadman Brook, although this area will not receive new sidewalks as part of the current project.
These enhancements are part of Westport’s broader efforts to improve community infrastructure and recreational facilities, ensuring safer and more enjoyable spaces for residents.
