Shadow Pines Pickleball Court Incident: A scheduled blast at Dolomite Quarry on Whalen Road in Penfield sent large rocks onto nearby Shadow Pines pickleball courts and playground Thursday morning. No one was injured, but several cars and playground equipment were damaged.
Witness Accounts
Joel Barnett, playing pickleball at the time, said, “We just saw rocks that were flying down from above, one hit the court, one hit the playground and I ran for the shelter.” He later found a large rock embedded in the ground, “a little bit smaller than a basketball.”
John Szulgit reported his car was hit, shattering the sunroof. “Unfortunately, it made a direct hit right on the sunroof and shattered the sunroof so I’m just waiting for the sheriff to come take a report,” he said.
