Seattle Slashes Pickleball Court Hours After Noise Uproar—Here’s What Players Need to Know

Seattle Pickleball Court Hours Change: Seattle Parks and Recreation is setting new, shorter hours for three outdoor pickleball and racket courts following repeated noise complaints. The Gilman Playground, Laurelhurst Playfield, and Mount Baker Park courts will now be open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends and city holidays.

Changes from Previous Hours

Previously, Gilman Playground was open 4 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., while Laurelhurst Playfield and Mount Baker Park were open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Seattle Parks and Recreation noted online that these earlier hours violated city noise ordinances after repeated complaints.

Enforcement Measures

City staff conducted sound studies confirming that activities at these courts exceeded noise limits. To enforce the new schedule, locks will be installed for 30 days if players use the courts outside permitted hours. If violations continue, the locks could become permanent.

New “Open Play” Pilot at Green Lake

Seattle is also launching an “open play” pickleball pilot at the Green Lake East courts starting October 1, 2025, lasting one year. The schedule is:

  • Monday: 8–10 a.m.

  • Wednesday: 1–3 p.m.

  • Saturday: 9–11 a.m.

  • Sunday: 4–6 p.m.

In this format, players rotate into play using a paddle-stacking system, and the courts are first-come, first-served.

Community Impact

The new hours aim to balance resident concerns about noise with community interest in pickleball. The pilot program at Green Lake provides structured access while maintaining fair use and safety for all players.
