Game On: Fort Atkinson Unveils New Pickleball Courts, Igniting Community Excitement

Fort Atkinson City Park Pickleball Tournament: Fort Atkinson City Park has completed its new pickleball courts as part of the Park Revitalization Program. The courts, supported by local organizations, donors, and community members, are now open for public use. The project aims to expand recreational options and meet the growing interest in pickleball in the area.

Upgrades and Improvements

Phase one of the park project focused on resurfacing the city court and creating a multi-use space. Two new pickleball courts were added, and two basketball courts were updated. These improvements offer residents of all ages more opportunities for sports and outdoor activities.

Funding for the project came from multiple sources:

  • $12,000 from the Winneshiek County Community Foundation

  • $1,200 from AcenTek

  • $5,000 from The Depot Outlet

  • $5,700 from the Shake it Up at the Park fundraiser

  • $13,891 from private donations

  • $670 from Can Redemption

“This revitalization is about more than just new courts, it’s about building a stronger, healthier, and more connected community,” said Councilmember Kay Schmitt. “We’re thrilled to see the pickleball courts finished and already being enjoyed.”

Looking Ahead

Although Phase One is finished, the Park Revitalization Program will continue. Fundraising will shift to Phase Two, which will add a zipline and interactive panels for toddlers. These additions aim to make the park a lively place for families and children.

Community members and visitors are encouraged to try the new courts, especially during Fort Atkinson Rendezvous Days, which take place the last weekend in September.
