Downtown Tualatin Pickleball Courts Hub: A new pickleball center, RECS, is set to open in downtown Tualatin next month. Located near the Lake at the Commons, the indoor facility will feature four cushioned courts, with plans for outdoor courts in spring 2026. The club aims to bring people together and help revitalize the downtown area.
Building a Community Space
RECS, short for Recreate, Exercise, Compete, Socialize, is led by Kevin Richards, long-time Tualatin resident and investor Kasey Flicker, and Bart Dickson of Cobalt. Richards said the club is “engineered for great pickleball, but it’s really about creating a place that feels welcoming—where people want to stay and hang out, not just play and leave.”
The trio’s goal is to make the space a “third place” where people feel a sense of belonging outside of home or work.

History and Vision
The idea began after Flicker visited Richards’ RECS Clackamas location in 2022 with Dickson. Flicker immediately saw potential for Tualatin. Richards recalled, “He said, ‘We need this in Tualatin. We have to transform the community, and I see RECS as a perfect way of doing it.’”
Dickson purchased the 11,264-square-foot building for $1.7 million in early 2025 and will rent it to RECS. “I saw the Community Warehouse go up for sale, and I wanted to find a tenant so I could do something with it that would activate Tualatin and make the area more appealing because we need a little bit of a soul in Tualatin,” said Bart Dickson.
Facility Features
RECS is designed for flexible use with comfortable seating, a lounge overlooking the courts, food and drinks, and retail space. Portable nets allow conversion for events. Flicker said, “We want to become a staple within the community. That’s important to us. (We want to) be a part of the events like the Pumpkin Regatta, be Packbackers, volunteer in the community.”
The club will offer memberships, classes, league play, tournaments, black light pickleball, and special events. Members receive priority court bookings, discounts on events, and access to tournaments. Non-members can reserve courts, join open play, or book private events.
Timeline and Future Plans
Kevin Richards aims for a soft launch in early October, with a grand opening in November. Outdoor courts and adjacent lounge space will open in spring 2026. Activities, including a wellness fair, will coincide with the West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta on October 19.
Richards sees RECS as part of a growing network in the Metro area. “We have people in our (Gladstone) club from ages 8 to 92 that are playing,” he said. “It’s a sport that can be played by everyone, but you can’t perfect it.”
