New Division Rules and Player Ratings
This year’s tournament introduces new rules for team ratings. A hard cap will apply to combined DUPR scores in each division. For example, the 3.0 & Under division allows a maximum combined score of 6.0. Previous restrictions on single player ratings in 3.5 and above divisions have been removed.
Players without a DUPR rating will be assigned the rating of the division they enter. For instance, a Not Rated player joining the 3.5 Division will be treated as a 3.5 DUPR. Tournament host Marcelo Reyes confirmed that these changes aim to ensure fairness and encourage players to compete at higher levels.
Equipment, Rules, and Policies
All matches will use Franklin X balls. Pool play games will be played to 11 points, win by 1. Playoff games and medal matches will be played to 11 points, win by 2. Teams must arrive 30 minutes before matches. A delay of more than 10 minutes will result in a forfeit.
Refunds will be issued only for cancellations received by September 21, minus processing fees. No refunds will be given after that date. In case of bad weather, organizers will make every effort to continue matches or adjust schedules.
Community Impact
The Dink Cup promises to bring together players of all levels, from beginners to seasoned competitors. With its new DUPR rules, the event focuses on balanced competition and fairness. By drawing participants from across the area, the tournament is expected to boost community involvement and highlight the growth of pickleball in South Florida.
