Pickle with Purpose: Lake Monticello’s First Charity Pickleball Tournament Serves Up Prizes, Fun, and Community Impact

Pickle with Purpose Pickleball Tournament: The Lake Monticello Community Foundation will hold its first annual Pickle with Purpose pickleball tournament on Oct. 18 at Lake Monticello’s Ashlawn Clubhouse. Proceeds will support the community service projects of the foundation. The event will feature players of different skill levels, awards, and prizes.

Tournament Structure and Schedule

The tournament will be divided into two skill levels. Players up to skill level 3.25 will start at 10 a.m., while higher-level players from 3.5 to 4.25 will begin at 2 p.m. Each group will play on eight newly-surfaced pickleball courts, with a maximum of 32 players per level. Medals and prizes will be awarded for both skill groups.

Player Benefits and Registration

All participants will receive performance t-shirts and swag bags. Food, drinks, and raffle prizes will also be available throughout the day. Tournament spots are limited. Players can register online and pay the $35 entrance fee.

Pickleball Growth and Community Impact

Pickleball has grown rapidly in the U.S., reaching an estimated 19.8 million players in 2024, up 45.8 percent from the previous year, according to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA). Lake Monticello has seen similar growth, with around 40 or more players often on the courts at the same time, enjoying both social connections and fitness benefits.

The event offers local players a chance to compete, connect, and support community programs, strengthening both the sport and the Lake Monticello community.

News in Brief: Pickle with Purpose Pickleball Tournament
