MARC Unveils Free Early Morning Pickleball and Tennis as Winter Court Changes Roll Out

MARC Winter Pickleball Court Schedule: Park City Recreation will keep most of its winter court schedule the same at the Park City Municipal Athletic and Recreation Center (MARC), with only a small change to how tennis and pickleball times are divided. The plan aims to meet demand as indoor courts fill up once winter weather begins.

Minor Schedule Change

Park City Recreation Coordinator Cole Johnston said the 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday slot, which was reserved for pickleball last winter, will now allow side-by-side play.

“We’re going to offer it for free, and then we’re experimenting with side-by-side play during that time slot. We’re going to basically have two pickleball courts available during that time, and two tennis courts available… Folks will still have to reserve it.”(Cole Johnston)

Early Morning Free Play

To boost participation during slower hours, weekday play from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. will also be free, according to a staff report. Players must still make reservations for both tennis and pickleball.

Bubble Installation and Start Date

Johnston confirmed that the bubble covering the outdoor courts will be installed on September 22.

“We’ve got those outdoor courts closed just through the week as we get the bubble prepped, hang lights … but then with the warmer weather continuing, we won’t start the actual tennis and pickleball schedule until Nov. 3.

So the bubble will be up, we’ll have tennis available in there, but we’ll also have outdoor courts available for as long as we can for both tennis and pickleball.”(Cole Johnston)

Open Play and Court Releases

The MARC will continue to host open-play pickleball in the gymnasium on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. This is included with a PC MARC facility pass or can be paid for with a daily drop-in fee.

Unused court times will be announced in advance whenever possible. Courts for Wednesday through Saturday will be released on Mondays at 11 a.m., while courts for Sunday through Tuesday will be released on Thursdays at 11 a.m. Courts will only be released if all indoor courts under the bubble are not in use.

Future Expansion

To meet growing demand for indoor play, the Park City Council approved an agreement in August with a developer to build a new indoor pickleball facility at Quinn’s Junction. This project will create additional space for players in future seasons.

News in Brief: MARC Winter Pickleball Court Schedule

Park City Recreation will keep its winter court schedule mostly the same at the MARC, with a small Saturday change and free early-morning play. The outdoor bubble goes up September 22, with the full tennis and pickleball schedule starting November 3. A new indoor facility at Quinn’s Junction is also planned.
