RGV Padel Club Pickleball Boom: A new sports club in Mission, Texas, is set to grow the love for pickleball and padel in the Rio Grande Valley. The RGV Padel Club will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, September 22, at 2513 Victoria Drive. The $2.7 million facility will feature seven padel courts, six pickleball courts, a pro shop, and a lounge. City officials expect the club to create 52 jobs and bring an estimated $5.8 million in economic impact over two years.
Expanding Sports Opportunities
The RGV Padel Club will be the largest pickleball and padel center in the Rio Grande Valley.
“We’re thrilled RGV Padel Club is bringing diversity to the entertainment options in Mission,”
said Teclo Garcia, CEO of the Mission Economic Development Corporation. The club’s opening shows the growing interest in these sports across South Texas.
Economic Incentives
To help bring the project to Mission, the Mission Economic Development Corporation approved a $140,000 incentive to be paid in four yearly payments of $35,000. In exchange, the RGV Padel Club agreed to create and maintain 20 jobs, join the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce as a premium member, and donate $5,000 to a local nonprofit group.
Growing Presence in the Valley
RGV Padel already operates a club in nearby McAllen. The company chose Mission for its second site because of the incentives and strong community interest. Other cities in the Valley are also embracing these sports. In late July, District 3 Brownsville City Commissioner Gustavo De Leon celebrated the opening of Padel Quattro, a five-court padel facility in Brownsville.
“This is a step toward a more active, connected Brownsville,” (Gustavo De Leon).
Pickleball Growth Across Cities
Harlingen city leaders have turned shuffleboard courts at the Harlingen Community Center, located at 201 East Madison Avenue, into eight pickleball courts earlier this year. In Edinburg, pickleball fans can now play at Janet Vackar Park, where new courts opened in May. The Edinburg courts are free to use during regular park hours.
Impact on the Community
The new RGV Padel Club shows how pickleball and padel are becoming key parts of local recreation. With more courts, jobs, and community programs, Mission and surrounding cities are set to benefit from stronger economies and more active lifestyles.
