Far Rockaway Detective Triumphs in NYPD Pickleball Tournament Honoring Fallen Hero

Detective Lynn Blanchette of Far Rockaway’s 101st Precinct won first place at a special NYPD pickleball tournament held earlier this month. The event honored Detective First Grade Didarul Islam, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this year, and raised funds to support his family.

Honoring Detective Didarul Islam

The NYPD organized the tournament to celebrate the life and legacy of Detective Didarul Islam, who was tragically killed during a mass shooting at a Manhattan office building. Officers from across the city joined to compete and show support for Islam’s family.

Detective Lynn Blanchette’s Achievement

Detective Lynn Blanchette began her career at the 101st Precinct in 2006, patrolling the Redfern and Edgemere Houses. Since March 2023, she has served as a detective specialist in the Community Affairs section. Blanchette works with Far Rockaway’s youth to keep them active and engaged, introducing them to pickleball, taking them to watch professional matches, and encouraging them to play.

“This event wasn’t just about competition — it was about coming together as a community to celebrate the incredible life and legacy of Det. Islam,”

the 101st Precinct said in a statement.

“Lynn’s victory is extra special because it represents the strength, camaraderie, and dedication that Det. Islam stood for.”
