Riverside Pickleball Courts Opening Soon: Riverside’s new pickleball courts are nearly finished and are expected to open for public play in early October. The courts are part of ongoing improvements at Hall Park and have been under construction since late June. The project will cost the city more than $200,000.
Final Work Underway
Brian Boelke of Iowa City-based Axiom Consultants, the city’s engineer, said surfacing for the three courts was scheduled for this week after the weather cools down. Cole Smith, City Administrator, told The News that the courts may be ready for play in just a few weeks, in October.
Park Upgrades and Costs
The pickleball courts are one of several upgrades at Hall Park. Work began after Trek Fest was held at the park earlier this summer. At its regular meeting on Monday, the City Council approved a payment of $96,696 to Bowker Pinnacle Mechanical of Cedar Rapids for work completed on the project. A change order of $6,471 was also approved.
Community Impact
The new courts will give Riverside residents and visitors a fresh space to enjoy pickleball, a sport growing in popularity across the country. The addition is expected to bring more activity to Hall Park and create another reason for families and players to gather in the area.
