The Virginia Gold Cup pickleball tournament will take place at The Picklr Fredericksburg on September 27 and 28, 2025, with registration closing on September 24 at 8:00 a.m. EST. Players of all skill levels can compete for cash prizes while earning rewards through the Amateur Pickleball Association’s PicklePerks program.
Tournament Details
The event will be held at The Picklr Fredericksburg, located at 3700 Plank Road in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Organized by the Amateur Pickleball Association (APA), the tournament is part of a nationwide amateur tour featuring nearly 150 events in 2025. APA is the only tour offering PicklePerks, which allows participants to earn cash rewards from their registration and match wins that can be applied to future tournaments or apparel.
The tournament is open to players with skill levels ranging from 2.5 to 5.0. Registration costs $75 for the first event, $55 for the second, and $35 for the third.
Format and Schedule
Competition will include round-robin play followed by brackets. Most players can expect to compete in 7 to 9 games during the event. Doubles matches begin Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m., mixed doubles start Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m., and singles matches will be scheduled in the afternoon on either day. All doubles matches will be single-game round-robin matches played to 11 points, win by 2, with bracket medal matches played best 2 of 3. A six-game guarantee is in place for all players.
Divisions will first be sorted by skill level and then by age group if enough teams or players register in each skill category. Players with at least 25 DUPR-rated games and a 60% or higher reliability rating will compete at their posted DUPR rating, ensuring fair placement.
Rules and Refunds
APA reminds participants to review the Event Formats page on its website to understand qualifying divisions, seeding, and tie-breaker procedures. “Players with 25+ games posted to DUPR and a 60%+ reliability rating will play at their posted DUPR rating regardless of their assumed abilities,” the organizers stated.
All registrations are final once payment is processed. There are no refunds, but credits will be offered in specific cases. Players who withdraw at least two weeks before the event will receive a full credit toward a future tournament. If weather cancels all matches, players who have not yet competed will receive a 50% credit. Once matches begin, no credits will be given. Late registrants who cannot be added to the schedule will also receive a credit but no refund. Players registering without a partner will receive a credit if a partner cannot be found before the event.
Prize Money
The Virginia Gold Cup will feature an OPEN doubles cash prize division, which is open to all ages and skill levels. Cash prizes will be awarded to medal winners in this category, with payouts of $1,000 for gold, $600 for silver, and $400 for bronze. Payouts represent Gold – 50%, Silver – 30%, and Bronze – 20% of the total purse, which requires a sold-out division.
Significance
The Virginia Gold Cup offers players of all levels a chance to compete, improve their skills, and earn rewards while enjoying a growing sport. By including cash prizes and the PicklePerks program, the Amateur Pickleball Association continues to attract both seasoned players and newcomers to one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States.
