Ava Watkins Pickleball Tournament: WATCH Inc. hosted the third annual Ava Watkins Memorial Pickleball Madness Tournament on Saturday morning at the Rudolph Pickleball Complex, raising $14,000 before the first match began. The event supports WATCH’s mission to provide a support network for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
Honoring Ava Watkins’ Legacy
The tournament is named for Ava Watkins, who served on WATCH’s board from 1984 until her death in March 2024. Watkins spent 31 of those years as board chair, helping guide the organization’s work and building programs that assist adults with disabilities.
Strong Participation Across Divisions
Tournament Director Joe Venice said 36 regular teams competed alongside seven unified teams made up of WATCH participants, community members, and Murray Pickleball Association members. WATCH Executive Director Gina Slaughter confirmed the $14,000 total raised before the matches began.
Youth Tournament Debut
For the first time, the event featured a youth tournament. Nine-year-old Zeek Billington, the son of Tabitha and Brad Billington, played with his cousins, nine-year-old Will and seven-year-old Charley Billington. Will and Charley are the children of Terry and Hannah Billington and enjoyed the chance to compete on the pickleball courts.

The tournament not only raised vital funds but also celebrated inclusion and community spirit. By honoring Ava Watkins’ years of service, the event highlighted the lasting impact of her leadership and the continuing efforts of WATCH to support individuals with disabilities.
