Northeast Park Pickleball Courts Expansion: Meridian is set to add six new pickleball courts at Northeast Park. The courts will be built behind the softball fields and include a pavilion and picnic tables. Construction is scheduled to begin within the next one to two weeks, depending on weather conditions.
Construction and Contractor Details
Australian Courtworks, based in Brandon, Mississippi, has been awarded the contract to build the new pickleball courts. The project will provide a modern space for residents to play and gather, enhancing the park’s amenities.
Community Benefits and Growth of Pickleball
Thomas Adams, director of Meridian Parks and Recreation, said the courts are a welcome addition.
“All of our courts are public courts. Just having pickleball courts out here in North Meridian is a plus, because we already have them down close to town at the Sammy Davidson complex.
We have eight of them out there, so I mean, pickleball is one of those sports that’s growing really fast. We want everyone to come out and recreate and enjoy.”(Thomas Adams)
The new courts will give North Meridian residents more opportunities to enjoy the rapidly growing sport of pickleball.
Timeline and Next Steps
Thomas Adams said,
“We are set to start work on this within the next week and a half or so. The bid has been awarded and granted by the City Council, so we’re set to have pickleball courts coming soon.”
Weather permitting, construction should begin shortly, providing a new recreational space for the community.
