Myrtle Beach Tees Up Major Pickleball Expansion at Whispering Pines Golf Club

Myrtle Beach Pickleball Courts Expansion: The Myrtle Beach City Council passed the first reading of an ordinance on Tuesday to approve a concession agreement with Pickleport Myrtle Beach, LLC. The proposed project will build pickleball courts on an unused portion of Whispering Pines Golf Club, responding to growing local interest in the sport.

Project Background and Approval

The concession agreement outlines the execution and delivery of the partnership between the city and Pickleport Myrtle Beach, LLC. Brian Tucker, Myrtle Beach Assistant City Manager, explained the decision:

“We have heard over the last several years, the growing interest in pickleball, the growing demand for pickleball. We have looked at other city owned properties for places to build additional pickleball courts.

Back in January, Mr. Hundsucker from Pickleport approached us about partnering with us to build a new pickleball facility at Whispering Pines. And so we were very, very excited to go down that path with him.”

Regulatory Approval

The National Park Service approved the draft agreement on September 8, clearing a key regulatory step for the project to move forward. The city now plans to continue the approval process before construction can begin.

Significance for Myrtle Beach

The new facility aims to meet the rising demand for pickleball in Myrtle Beach. With additional courts, residents and visitors will have more opportunities to play, and the partnership with Pickleport Myrtle Beach, LLC reflects the city’s interest in supporting recreational growth and community engagement.
