MacKay Park Pickleball Courts Expansion: Five new pickleball courts opened at MacKay Park in Lake Arrowhead on Friday, giving residents and visitors more places to play one of the nation’s fastest-growing sports. Local officials, community members, and pickleball players joined a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the project, which was funded with county support.
Community Celebration
The event was hosted by the San Bernardino County Special Districts, the Lake Arrowhead Dam Commission, and the office of County Supervisor Dawn Rowe. Robin Bull, Mountain Representative for Supervisor Dawn Rowe, thanked everyone who worked together to complete the project.
“We can picture families here enjoying these courts for years to come. Supervisor Rowe is committed to providing resources like this for our mountain communities. We want to thank the community and everyone who helped make this vision a reality.”(Robin Bull)
Supervisor Dawn Rowe, who could not attend, shared her support in a statement.
“Many residents have expressed their desire for more local pickleball courts. I’m pleased to use discretionary funds from my budget to support this project and provide more recreational opportunities for our community.”(Dawn Rowe)
Growing Pickleball Facilities
The five new courts join the original three courts built in 2018, bringing the total to eight. William Kanayan, representing the Lake Arrowhead Dam and MacKay Park Advisory Committee, praised the upgrades and thanked those who helped.
“These courts are a wonderful addition to our community. We’re also developing a program where individuals and businesses can donate benches to enhance the park. I want to especially thank our contractor, Chris Altmeyer, for his excellent work on building these courts.”(William Kanayan)
Kristy Rostawicki of the Lake Arrowhead Community Pickleball Club encouraged newcomers to join the growing group of local players.
“Our club is passionate about growing pickleball here in Lake Arrowhead. If you’re interested in learning how to play or getting involved, reach out to us through our Facebook page.”(Kristy Rostawicki)
Impact on the Community
With eight courts now open, MacKay Park is set to become a key gathering place for pickleball fans in the Rim communities. The new courts offer more space for players of all ages and skill levels to stay active, meet new people, and enjoy the game.
