Pickle for a Purpose Tournament Serves Up Cash Prizes and Community Impact in Yorktown

The Pickle for a Purpose pickleball tournament will take place from October 3-5, 2025, at Back Creek Park, 3000 Goodwin Neck Road, Yorktown, Virginia. The event raises funds for the Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads (YVCHR), which engages youth aged 11-18 in meaningful volunteer work. Registration closes September 29, 2025, at 11:55 PM EST, with fees starting at $35 per player.

About the Tournament

Pickle for a Purpose offers a variety of events for all skill and age levels. Matches will be played on 12 outdoor dedicated pickleball courts. Players can participate in men’s, women’s, and mixed singles and doubles. Age divisions include 10+, 35+, 50+, 60+, 65+, and 70+, while skill divisions range from 3.0+ to 4.5+.

Special Events and Cash Prizes

A Friday Night Coed Split-Age event will feature cash prizes for three skill levels: 3.0+, 3.5+, and 4.0+. Teams must include one player under 40 and one over 40 and may consist of any combination of genders. Gold, silver, and bronze prizes are awarded at 50%, 30%, and 20% of the total pot, depending on the number of registered teams.

Schedule and Registration Details

The tournament begins Friday, October 3, with men’s and women’s singles in the late morning/early afternoon and the Coed Split-Age event at 5 PM. Saturday, October 4, hosts men’s and women’s doubles, and Sunday, October 5, features mixed doubles. Early registration ends May 16, 2025, at $25, while regular registration from May 17 costs $35. Event fees are $10 per skill/age event and $20 for cash prize events.

Rules and Format

The tournament is non-sanctioned but follows USAP 2025 rules. Round Robin formats will be used, followed by single elimination or medal matches. Gold medal matches are best 2-of-3 games to 11, while bronze medal matches are 1 game to 15. All matches are self-monitored, and age and skill requirements are strictly enforced.

Additional Information

Players will use Franklin X-40 neon green balls, and bright green shirts are not allowed. Snacks and water will be provided. Paddles must be USA Pickleball-approved, and DUPR ratings will be recorded. Tournament directors may combine brackets if necessary to ensure full competition.
