Hecksher Park Pickleball Courts Upgrade: The City of Venice and the Venice Parks and Recreation Department officially opened two new pickleball courts at Hecksher Park on September 25, 2025. Located at 450 West Venice Avenue, the courts provide a convenient and accessible place for residents and visitors to enjoy the fast-growing sport.
A Modern Upgrade for Hecksher Park
The project was funded by the City of Venice’s Parks and Recreation Department, with support from the community. The new courts replace a worn-out tennis court that had been in use since the 1970s. The decision to build pickleball courts came as the sport’s popularity grew among local residents.
Community Support and Collaboration
Lori Medlin, President and CEO of the Halifax County Convention and Visitors Bureau, highlighted the project’s value.
“We always try to think of things that enhance the quality of life in the community and bring visitors in,”(Lori Medlin).
She added that many older visitors frequently ask where they can play pickleball while in Venice.
Kelly Daughtry, Director of the City Parks and Recreation Department, praised the teamwork between the city and the Halifax County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“The new courts have been well-received by the community, with people using them regularly even before the official opening,”(Kelly Daughtry).

The addition of the pickleball courts at Hecksher Park creates a new space for recreation, promoting physical activity and social interaction. Residents and visitors alike are expected to benefit from the facility, which meets the growing demand for pickleball while supporting a healthy lifestyle.
