North Dakota Pickleball Tournament: UPA State Championships

North Dakota Pickleball Tournament: The United Pickleball State Championships are set to take place at Courts Plus Community Fitness, located at 3491 University Drive South in Fargo, North Dakota. The event will unfold from August 2 to August 4, 2024. With a capacity for significant participation, the venue promises an exciting atmosphere for competitors and spectators alike.

Registration and Participation

Registration for the event closed on July 22, 2024. The entry fee for participation was set at $55, covering one event, with an additional $25 for each subsequent event. Medalists from this championship will earn the opportunity to compete in the UPA World Championships, adding a layer of prestige and competition to the proceedings.

Format and Structure

The championship will follow a double elimination format without a come-around option, meaning once a team loses, the best they can achieve is a bronze medal. Matches will be played in a best-of-three format, with each game going to 11 points and requiring a two-point margin to win. In instances where there are fewer than three teams in doubles or three players in singles, events may be combined based on skill or age to ensure a competitive and enjoyable experience.

Venue Details

Courts Plus Community Fitness features ten pickleball hardcourt surfaces, all indoors but non-air-conditioned. The Franklin X40 ball will be used for all matches. The venue provides ample space for competition, though it comes with specific guidelines: no pets, no food, no grilling, and no dish-to-pass events are allowed on the premises.

Tournament Dynamics

With 42 total registrations, 37 participants are set to compete in at least one event. The breakdown of registered players includes 23 males and 14 females, highlighting a robust participation across genders. Each participant is guaranteed four games per event, ensuring ample playtime and competition for all.

Additional Information

If a player’s partner fails to register within seven days of their own registration, the team will be moved to the waitlist. This policy ensures that only fully registered teams can compete, maintaining the integrity and organization of the event. The tournament reserves the right to adjust match formats in response to weather-related delays, showcasing the organizers’ flexibility and commitment to a smooth event.

The cancellation deadline for refunds, minus a $25 withdrawal fee, was set for July 17, 2024, ensuring that participants had a clear timeline for any changes in their plans.

The United Pickleball State Championships in North Dakota are poised to be a significant event in the pickleball calendar. With a well-structured format, a prestigious venue, and a diverse group of competitors, the tournament promises to deliver high-level competition and memorable experiences for all involved. As the dates approach, the excitement builds, and Fargo prepares to welcome pickleball enthusiasts from across the state.
