Fishkill Expands Pickleball Facilities: Fishkill Parks and Recreation, in collaboration with the Highway Department, recently completed construction on a new outdoor pickleball complex at Doug Phillips Park. The addition of six courts comes in response to the surging popularity of pickleball, a trend that has seen enthusiastic support from the local community.
Local pickleball advocate Tina Shebetone spearheaded the initiative by successfully launching an indoor league at the town recreation center. Recognizing the sport’s appeal, town officials swiftly responded to the increasing demand for outdoor courts.
I noticed the gym was so beautiful, and I said, ‘You know what, how about asking the director if I can start a pickleball program here,” Shebetone said.
Initially, nearby residents expressed concerns about potential noise disturbances from the courts. However, careful planning and the natural barrier of thick vegetation surrounding the park have reduced these worries. Fishkill Recreation Director Jason Maietta reassured residents that measures are in place to reduce any disruptions, emphasizing the town’s commitment to maintaining harmony with the neighborhood.
“Hopefully the noise will drown out before it gets too late to really cause any disruption to neighbors, but if it does, we’ll be certain to address it,” Maietta said
Fishkill intends to build two more pickleball courts at a nearby park in the future to meet the ongoing demand and effectively manage construction costs by using in-house resources.
