Pickle Lodge Expands with Six New Outdoor Courts: West Chester, Ohio The Pickle Lodge, one of the largest indoor pickleball facilities in the United States, is expanding its offerings by adding six new outdoor courts, according to a recent press release.
Groundbreaking for the new courts occurred on Monday. Once completed, The Pickle Lodge will boast a total of 23 courts.
Originally an underutilized tennis center, The Pickle Lodge underwent refurbishment and transformation into a pickleball facility. It is the “first facility of its size in the county” to make this transition, the release stated. The revamped space, formerly known as the Court Yard Sportsplex, opened in July 2023.
Phoenix Architecture and Your Court LLC are working together to design the new “`outdoor court facility”.
Each court will be pro-sized, measuring 64 feet by 36 feet. They will feature cushioning, individual fencing, and LED lighting. The area around the courts will include walkways, outdoor seating, and shaded areas, allowing visitors to watch matches, socialize, and enjoy live music.
“There is no reason why these shouldn’t be the best outdoor courts in the city,” said Pickle Lodge Cofounder Mitch Dunn. “We designed them to facilitate the highest level of play while also serving as a fantastic place to learn the sport from scratch.”
The outdoor facility will also provide “direct access to an ordering window,” connecting it to the lodge’s in-house bar, Erne’s Pickle Bar.
“While indoor courts enable year-round play free from the downsides of environmental factors like wind and sun, the outdoor courts will be the ideal place for corporate and other group events like graduation parties, family reunions, and date nights,” Dunn added. “It will be a phenomenal place to enjoy a Two Cities pizza and a cold beverage with friends and family.”
The new courts represent the final phase of the lodge’s development plan. The release did not specify the expected completion date for the construction.
The lodge also has plans to expand beyond its West Chester location.
“The demand for courts, especially weather-protected courts, is exploding,” Dunn noted. “The Pickle Lodge is already an ambitious project, but we can’t resist the temptation to grow. There is still plenty of room for growth both in Cincinnati and in other Midwest markets.”
