New Pickleball Courts at Lower Ross Park Open on August 20

New Pickleball Courts at Lower Ross Park: The Pocatello Parks & Recreation Department is gearing up for a significant milestone with the grand opening of the Con Gilmore Pickleball Courts at Lower Ross Park. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 20, at 10 a.m.

This new facility is a tribute to Con Gilmore, a pivotal figure in Pocatello’s parks history, who served as Parks & Recreation Director from 1967 to 2004. Gilmore’s impact includes the development of the Ross Park Aquatics Complex and OK Ward Park and advancements in the city’s irrigation systems.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

The five newly inaugurated pickleball courts are designed to accommodate all players, featuring ADA accessibility, plexi-cushion acrylic surfacing, and LED lighting.

The courts will be open for play right after the grand opening. To manage high demand, a rotational system is in place, with court hours extending from sunrise to one hour after dusk. The LED lighting will turn off at 10 p.m.

Community Impact

“These courts are long overdue, and we are pleased to be able to offer them to the public. We have pickleball players of all ages and abilities ready to give these courts a try. I’m pleased we are able to honor Con Gilmore in a small way for his hard work and contributions to Pocatello.” – (Parks & Recreation Director, Anne Butler)
