Bourbonnais Park’s Pickleball Court Construction Progresses

Bourbonnais Park’s Pickleball Court Construction: The village of Bourbonnais is embracing the pickleball trend with significant developments underway at Ed Hayes Park. Public Works Superintendent Terry Memenga provided an update during the Monday board meeting, detailing the construction of four new pickleball courts.

Project Overview

Situated a half block west of North Convent Street on Highpoint Circle South, the project is progressing well. “It is going well. Later this week we will begin pouring concrete and fence posts will be going in.” Memenga reported. The total cost of the project stands at $400,000, with a picnic pavilion also being added. Landscaping will create a buffer between the courts and nearby homes on Anita Drive. Memenga noted that Public Works is handling the bulk of the construction, which has saved the village 40% on costs.

Construction Details

On Tuesday, Public Works team members were preparing the area for approximately 150 cubic yards of concrete. The concrete will need to sit for 30 days before the playing surface is installed.

“It’s going to take a little more time since we did not contract the project out. The savings we are experiencing are making it possible to get this done this year. I expect it will take us into early fall.” – (Memenga)

Community Impact

Ed Hayes Park, covering 2.3 acres, currently features playground equipment and a covered picnic table area, with 90% of the park remaining open land. The new pickleball courts will add to the park’s amenities, providing an exciting addition for residents. Currently, the only pickleball courts in Bourbonnais are at Keno Park in partnership with the Bourbonnais Township Park District. Memenga expressed optimism about the new park feature, stating,

“We expect this to be a great park, a great feature for our residents.”
