Pickleball Facility Proposal in Saratoga Under Review

Pickleball Facility Proposal in Saratoga: At the August 6th Saratoga Town Council meeting, the Good Times Pickleball Association, represented by Cindy Loose and Cindy Carnes, made a compelling case for the town to donate land for a new indoor pickleball facility. Loose, detailing the plan for a 12,000-square-foot building, emphasized pickleball’s rapid rise as America’s fastest-growing sport. The facility, which aims to foster community engagement and enhance residents’ physical and mental health, is designed to bring locals together through the sport’s unique appeal.

Economic and Practical Considerations

The proposed facility, estimated to cost $527,707, would accommodate six to eight pickleball courts. This figure, however, does not include the costs for electrical work, pickleball facility funding HVAC, lighting, or the courts themselves.

Loose noted that the Good Times Pickleball Association would seek grants and local business sponsorships to cover these expenses. The facility is expected to draw players from neighboring towns like Encampment, Rawlins, Sinclair, Casper, and Laramie, potentially boosting local spending.

Council’s Queries and Future Steps

Councilwoman Kathy Beck inquired about the Carbon County Visitor’s Council’s potential contribution and requested a detailed business plan to address construction and maintenance funding before proceeding. Mayor Chuck Davis asked for specifics on what the town would be required to contribute.

Loose clarified that the association seeks land donations, with additional support for maintenance and staffing. Councilman Bub Barkhurst raised concerns about operational costs, which Loose attempted to address using artificial intelligence. Beck’s approval was tempered by the need for a solid financial plan. Davis will review the legality of using land from Kathy Glode Park and instruct the association to refine their proposal.
