Scott County Plans New Tennis and Pickleball Courts at Great Crossing Park

Scott County Plans New Tennis and Pickleball Courts: Great Crossing Park in Scott County is set to expand its recreational offerings with two new tennis courts and eight pickleball courts. The Scott County Fiscal Court approved the projects during Friday’s meeting, with bids for construction now being solicited.

Scott County Judge Executive Joe Pat Covington confirmed that the site has already been graded and expressed a desire to complete the construction by fall. The new tennis courts will increase the total to six, enabling Scott County Schools to host high school tennis matches at the park.

In addition to the courts, the Fiscal Court also approved purchasing equipment for a new disc golf course in Scott County Park. The Frankfort Disc Golf Association collaborated on the course design, which will span across much of the park.

Georgetown/Scott County Parks and Recreation Director Drew Beckett noted the thoughtful placement of tee boxes in shaded areas, adding that the course will challenge players by requiring them to move around trees and over water without disrupting other park activities. The project is budgeted at an estimated $18,000.

“What made me very impressed was the placement of the tee boxes, they put them in shaded areas under trees. You have to go around trees, you have to go over water, but the placement is not interrupting anything else.” – (Covington)

During the meeting, the court also discussed potential improvements to the county’s short-term rental ordinance to address issues related to “nuisance houses.” Although no action was taken, Georgetown/Scott County Tourism Director Lori Saunders praised the existing ordinance as a strong example at conferences.
