Largest Outdoor Pickleball Facility in Mississippi Underway in Flowood

Largest Outdoor Pickleball Facility in Mississippi: In a move that promises to elevate the pickleball scene in Mississippi, the City of Flowood has officially broken ground on what is set to become the largest outdoor pickleball facility in the state. Located along Liberty Road, adjacent to the YMCA, this new development will feature 18 lighted pickleball courts. Daniel Lang, Flowood’s director of economic development, announced that construction is underway and the facility could be operational by early next year.

Investment and Features

The ambitious project, which carries a price tag of $3 million, will also include a playground, restrooms, and additional parking. Lang expressed optimism about the facility’s potential, stating,

“Don’t hold me to it, but we believe this will be the largest outdoor Pickleball facility in the state. We know it has caught on around the country and there are a lot of people who love it and play it.”

Flowood’s Pickleball Expansion

Flowood has already made strides in the pickleball community by converting the tennis courts at Winner’s Circle Park into four pickleball courts. Once the new facility at Liberty Park opens, these courts will revert to tennis use, bringing the total to 18 pickleball courts at Liberty Park and five tennis courts at Winner’s Circle Park. Despite Flowood’s significant investment, Lang noted that a new venue being developed by Picklr in Biloxi could potentially surpass Flowood’s facility in size.

Community and Future Plans

Flowood Mayor Gary Rhoads emphasized the importance of expanding family-friendly activities.

“Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport and all ages can play. We want to meet that demand and supply as many courts as possible. We want more people to experience all of the great amenities Flowood has to offer, and this new Pickleball complex will be for every member of the family to enjoy.” – (Mayor Gary Rhoads)
