New Pickleball Courts in Glenville’s Indian Meadows Park

New Pickleball Courts in Glenville: On Monday morning, local officials celebrated the groundbreaking of new pickleball courts at Glenville’s Indian Meadows Park. Scheduled for completion by the end of September, these courts are part of a broader initiative to expand pickleball facilities across the Capital Region. Recent additions include pickleball courts at Hillhurst Park in Schenectady, Legacy Pickleball Club in Ballston Spa, and Esposito Park in Rotterdam.

Community Response and Planning

Deputy Supervisor Robert Kirkham emphasized Glenville’s commitment to enhancing community quality of life.

This is just another great example of investing in our community in a way that really reaches every single generation.” – (Kirkham)

The project, driven by community demand, began when Glenville residents petitioned the Park Planning Commission for dedicated pickleball courts after renovations to existing tennis courts.

Project Details and Funding

The Glenville Town Board collaborated with the Park Planning Commission to secure funding and finalize the project bid. A $294,872 contract was awarded to DelSignore Blacktop Paving for the construction of the six courts at Indian Meadows. This initiative reflects the town’s response to increasing pickleball popularity, with resident and pickleball enthusiast Tom White playing a key role in advocating for the new courts.

“It’s our social group, mainly centered around pickleball. As retirees, it gives us things to do with our time and a way to meet people.” – (White)

Broader Implications and Community Benefits

Armand Canestraro, chair of the Park Planning Commission, highlighted the anticipated benefits of the new courts for Glenville residents. “This will be a real positive for the residents of the town,” he said. With pickleball’s rapid growth—13.6 million players nationwide as of 2023—officials hope to attract players of all ages. Glenville resident Tom White, who discovered pickleball as a retirement hobby, expressed excitement about the new facilities.

“It’s both the competition and the social aspects.” – (White)
