Danville’s Pickleball Group Seeks State Grant Funds to Enhance Pickleball Facilities

Danville’s Pickleball Group Seeks State Grant Funds: Members of Danville’s pickleball group are optimistic about securing state grant funding to establish pickleball courts at Sunnybrook Park. This follows a show of support from the Montour County Commissioners, who endorsed the project in a meeting on Tuesday.

Diane Sones and Karen Tintsman, co-chairs of the Pickleball Court Project, are exploring various grant opportunities to finance the construction. They plan to apply for $280,000 in Local Share Account grant funding next month. According to Sones, this amount would cover the first phase of the project, which includes four fenced-in courts and a social area—“About half of what we want,” she noted.

Support from Local Authorities

On Monday night, Mahoning Township supervisors approved a letter of support for the proposed courts. The letter expressed the township’s “unwavering support” for the initiative, highlighting the importance of the socialization area for players to connect between games.

“Mahoning Township would like to add its unwavering support for this fun, important and worthy project.” – (letter of support)

Last summer, the land at Sunnybrook Park was offered to the pickleball group. Sones and Tintsman initially planned to build eight courts. As of October, the group had raised over $50,000 through grants and donations, with Service 1st Federal Credit Union matching some of the funds.
