Pickleball Craze Takes Over at Wollman Rink: As the sun rose on Father’s Day, Manhattan’s Wollman Rink echoed with the lively sounds of pickleball, a sport steadily gaining popularity among families in New York City.
Ben Sirota, accompanied by his daughter, Teddy, cherished their morning on the City Pickle Courts.
“It’s the best. All I want is to be with my kids and our wonderful friends,” Sirota expressed warmly.
Teddy, who discovered pickleball at summer camp last year, shared her enthusiasm: “I like it because it’s easier than tennis but harder than ping pong.”
Fred Cibelli and his son Easton, celebrating Father’s Day with a surprise pickleball set, highlighted the joy of shared moments outdoors.
“This morning, we surprised him with a pickleball set, and we came here to play and have fun,” Easton shared enthusiastically.
Fred Cibelli reflected on the gift’s success: “I love that I can be outside and then play a sport with our little guy and our best friends over here. So we really enjoy something we can share.”
In addition to father-child pairs, Wollman Rink welcomed other families, such as Ali Wayman and her mom, who took advantage of their vacation in the city.
“My brother and dad are off at baseball games, so we’re having some court time together before dinner,” Wayman explained.
The City Pickle courts at Wollman Rink remain open seven days a week throughout the fall, inviting families to reserve their spots online at the City Pickle’s website.
