Ashland Pickleball Club Expands Court Efforts: The Ashland Pickleball Club is making strides to accommodate its burgeoning membership, aiming to enhance playing conditions and increase court availability at Lithia Park. Over the weekend, the club hosted a fundraising tournament to raise funds for court repairs and new installations.
Cori Frank, the club’s membership director, highlighted the rapid growth of pickleball in the area. “We have a couple of courts that really need repair, and we also are trying to get new courts.” Frank remarked. The current facilities, however, face challenges, with some courts in need of repair due to wear and tear.
During the weekend tournament, held in a round-robin format from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the club aimed to raise $10,000 toward these improvements. Frank emphasized the urgent need for repairs, citing a dangerous crack in court #5 that nearly caused injury. “You’re going to see a huge crack that’s going to run all the way through the court,” Frank explained.
Ashland Parks and Recreation complements the club’s efforts by securing additional funding and space for new courts. “They have actually looked at it and at one time proposed using the old Oak Knoll Golf Course to add courts. That is an underutilized area and it would have all the infrastructure in place. ” Frank disclosed.
As temperatures rise, so does interest in outdoor activities like pickleball, making the expansion and improvement of facilities crucial to meeting growing demand in Ashland.
