Friendswood Opens Mega Sports Complex: 15 Pickleball Courts and More

Friendswood Opens Mega Sports Complex: The newly opened Challenge Elite Sports Complex promises an expansive athletic experience for all youth and adults. Located on 10 acres off Beamer Road and Texas 145, the facility features a comprehensive range of amenities including 15 pickleball courts, six indoor volleyball courts, 12 outdoor sand volleyball courts, four high school regulation-sized basketball courts, and four futsal courts.

“We built this from scratch and designed every detail meticulously,” said David Mai, the owner of Challenge Elite. The complex officially opened in early August.

Mai, an engineer by profession, emphasized the facility’s dual focus on optimizing player and spectator experiences. The complex includes versatile, cushioned vinyl flooring to reduce injury risk and a design that integrates indoor and outdoor sports spaces.

“Visitors don’t have to drop the kids off and leave. Our goal was to create a space where family members of all ages can enjoy different sports together.” – (Mai)

The facility is equipped with tournament-ready indoor venues, outdoor spaces with stadium lighting, and comprehensive amenities such as restrooms and showers. The complex’s 10-acre size allows for a diverse range of activities that set it apart from other Houston-area sports facilities, which typically have smaller footprints and fewer amenities.

Mai’s vision for Challenge Elite reflects his lifelong passion for sports, nurtured during his childhood in South Vietnam. After arriving in the U.S. in 1978, Mai pursued a successful career in engineering and, alongside his wife Phuong Henry, built the complex as a way to give back to the community.

“My wife, my four children, and I are all passionate about sports. We’ve worked hard on this project, and we’re excited to provide a family-friendly sports hub for the Bay Area.” – (Mai)

The Mai family, who experienced hardship growing up, aims to create a lasting community impact with Challenge Elite, a testament to their resilience and dedication to sports.
