Largest Pickleball Complex in Key Largo Opens in Monroe County August 22

Largest Pickleball Complex in Key Largo: Monroe County is set to celebrate a significant milestone in its recreational facilities with the grand opening of the Keys’ largest pickleball complex. On Thursday, Aug. 22, at 8:30 a.m., officials will open 10 new dedicated pickleball courts at Key Largo Community Park, marking a major enhancement for local sports enthusiasts. This development comes in response to growing interest in pickleball, a sport that previously saw players adapting basketball courts to meet their needs.

A Long-Awaited Upgrade

“Previously, players had to convert basketball courts for pickleball. Now, they have dedicated courts. We thank the community and county staff for making this a reality for many enthusiasts.” – (Parks and Beaches Director John Allen)

Setting the Standard

While Higgs Beach offers six permanent courts and six multipurpose courts, the new facility at Key Largo Park will stand as the largest standalone pickleball complex in the Keys. Each court is separated by fencing, enhancing the experience for players.

“This is a huge asset for our growing pickleball community. The county and commissioners are committed to meeting the growing demand of our pickleball enthusiasts with this new addition, along with three additional courts soon to be constructed at Blue Heron in Big Pine Key.” – (Allen)

Upcoming Tournament

To celebrate the opening, a pickleball tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit Wesley House Family Services, a Monroe County nonprofit dedicated to protecting and nurturing children and strengthening families. The registration deadline for participants is Sept. 13.
