Pickleball Courts Highlight Hillsborough Schools’ Summer Upgrades

Pickleball Courts Highlight Hillsborough Schools: As the new school year approaches, Hillsborough’s summer renovations include a notable emphasis on pickleball, reflecting its growing popularity. Superintendent Michael Volpe shared updates on the district’s projects during the Monday night Board of Education meeting, highlighting significant developments related to pickleball courts.

Amsterdam Elementary School: Pickleball Courts on the Horizon

Amsterdam Elementary is set to enhance its sports facilities with the construction of new tennis courts, which will double as pickleball courts. The courts have been paved and are currently curing, with completion expected by September 23. The project, a partnership with the Township, includes painting the courts for pickleball, underscoring the sport’s increasing demand. “Not only are we going to have that ready for tennis and interscholastic sports. Also outside of school hours, those will be painted for pickleball as that is a growing popular sport,” said Volpe.

District-Wide Impact: Embracing Pickleball

The decision to incorporate pickleball court lines on the new courts at Amsterdam Elementary is part of a broader trend within the district to cater to the sport’s rising popularity. This move aligns with the community’s interest in expanding recreational options for students and residents alike.

Additional School Updates

While pickleball takes center stage, other significant updates across Hillsborough schools include:

  • Woodfern Elementary: New roof installation is complete, with only minor stair work pending.
  • Triangle Elementary: A new playground has been installed, with final inspections and additional site improvements forthcoming.
  • Hillsborough High School: The fire shutter project is nearing completion, stadium lighting replacement is underway, and shop room dust collector installation is finished.
  • Sunnymead Elementary: Construction of a new pavilion is in the early stages, with preparation and concrete work completed.
