The Picklr’s Mount Prospect Facility Set for Grand Opening

The Picklr’s Mount Prospect Facility Set: Pickleball’s rise in popularity is no surprise—its simplicity and accessibility make it a hit among all age groups. Combining elements of tennis with a more approachable format, the sport not only provides a fun activity but also fosters social connections.

The Picklr is capitalizing on this trend, expanding its footprint across the country with premium indoor pickleball facilities. With nearly 250 locations across 15 states, The Picklr has become a major player in the pickleball scene.

New Location in Mount Prospect

The Picklr is set to open its fourth Illinois location at 211 W. Rand Rd., the former site of a Fresh Thyme grocery store. Following the village board’s approval of a liquor license on August 20, the Mount Prospect facility is scheduled to debut on September 21.

This new venue will feature 14 pickleball courts, including 12 regulation and 2 championship-sized pickleball courts. The pickleball facility will also include a pro shop offering equipment and refreshments, necessitating a Class S-2 liquor license for beer and wine sales.

Enhanced Features and Amenities

Owner Ron Weiland, who is also the co-founder of the North Shore Pickleball Group, highlighted several unique features of the new location. “We’re also going to have an informal members’ lounge in the front and that’s going to have more informal seating like couches, nice, big TVs, and everything so that people can play and hang out before, during, or after a match,” Weiland said.

The facility will include fencing around courts to prevent stray balls and sound baffles to enhance the playing experience. Premium locker rooms and private showers will be available for members.

Community Engagement and Opening Details

Construction on the Mount Prospect site has been underway for just over a month and is on track for a grand opening on September 21, featuring food trucks and open play. A soft opening might occur earlier if construction concludes ahead of schedule. The facility will operate from 6 a.m. to midnight, with alcohol sales permitted only after 8 a.m. “It is family-friendly, we’ll be making sure everyone is age-appropriate for what they’re drinking — we’ll have water, soda, and everything else in the pro shop. We are focusing on kids in this because it really is a fast-growing sport and the younger generation is really picking up on this. When people played pickleball years ago, they were thinking, ‘Oh, it’s a retiree sport,’ but the average player is now 35 years old. The fastest growing demographic is from 29 to 34,” Weiland noted.

The Picklr aims to attract a younger demographic, with the average player now around 35 years old. Mount Prospect’s board members acknowledged the town’s growing reputation as a sports hub, noting its state-of-the-art facilities across various sports. To date, over 240 members have signed up.
