New Pickleball Courts in Canal Winchester Opening Today

New Pickleball Courts in Canal Winchester: Canal Winchester, Ohio, is set to enhance its recreational offerings with the opening of five new pickleball courts at McGill Park. The grand opening event is scheduled for Thursday, at 5 p.m., where residents are invited to witness the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Mayor Joe Steager and Council President Will Bennett will kick off the celebration with an inaugural game.

Construction and Development

The construction of these courts is a part of the broader development plan for McGill Park, which began in 2021. The park’s first section, opened in July 2022, features soccer fields, a playground, walking trails, and an open shelter house. “When planning for the park, we knew adding pickleball courts was a priority for our community,” said Steager.

He noted the high level of public interest in the courts, stating, “Since starting construction, people have been asking when they will be ready or stopping at the park to check on construction. I expect them to get a lot of use.

Visitor Information

The new pickleball courts will be accessible daily from dawn until 10 p.m., with lighting available for evening play. The city will distribute custom pickleballs to the first 100 visitors. Beyond that, players will need to bring their own equipment. The courts will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, with special event rentals planned for later this year.

Future Developments

McGill Park’s development will continue with future phases, including the addition of multipurpose fields, a dog park, and an event center, further expanding the park’s offerings.
