Council Greenlights Coudersport Pickleball Tournament Amid Electrical Concerns

Council Greenlights Coudersport Pickleball Tournament: On Aug. 21, the Coudersport Borough Council discussed the upcoming pickleball tournament organized by the Coudersport Pickleball Club. Scheduled for Oct. 5 at CARP Park, the event will utilize the park’s courts, pavilion, and restrooms.

The club’s request for electricity sparked a discussion regarding the park’s outdated electrical system. Borough Manager Bev Morris expressed doubts about the operational status of the outlets, which have been unused for years. Council Vice President Martin Fry confirmed that the outlets have been inoperative for at least 25 years.

Council’s Decision on Electrical Repairs

Despite the concerns, the council decided not to invest in repairing the electrical system, citing the park’s poor condition. “I’m not going to ever vote to sink money in there; the ground is lower than low,” said Council President Wayne Hathaway.

Consequently, the pickleball club will need to supply their own electricity by running cords from the stadium. The council approved the use of the courts and restrooms with the standard $100 fee for the pavilion.

Other Council Business

In addition to the pickleball tournament discussion, the council reviewed the impact of the Aug. 9 storm, appointed Craig Miller as a new council member, and planned seasonal facility closures and improvements.
