Siren’s Pickleball Project Completed: The Village of Siren recently marked a significant milestone with the completion of a major redevelopment at the Siren Ballpark. This initiative, which refurbished the park’s facilities, transformed an existing concrete slab into three new dedicated pickleball courts alongside a full-length basketball court. Construction commenced in late May and reached completion in early August. This project was a joint effort with the local pickleball community, showing the increasing popularity of the sport in the area.
Gandy Dancer Pickleball Association’s Role
The Gandy Dancer Pickleball Association (GDPA), a non-profit established in 2022, was pivotal in driving this project. The association’s mission is to advocate for and enhance the sport of pickleball within local communities. Kirk Fischer, President of the GDPA, emphasized the importance of expanding pickleball facilities.
“Pickleball is growing rapidly in the area, and there are many health and community benefits to supporting that growth. We feel that the addition of new courts will fill a need in the community and provide an opportunity for residents and visitors of all ages to enjoy the sport.” – (Fischer)
The GDPA’s efforts include offering introductory lessons, providing equipment, and organizing events and tournaments.
Funding and Contributions
The GDPA invested $33,000 into the project, with significant contributions from individual members and local businesses. A notable boost came from the Bernick Family Foundation, which awarded a $20,000 grant. This funding was instrumental in initiating the project, enabling the GDPA and Siren to achieve their shared goals effectively.
Jason Bernick, Director of Corporate Affairs at the Bernick Family Foundation, showed the grant’s impact.
“This year’s grant recipients, including the Siren pickleball project, will truly have an impact on communities that we share a stake in, and we are proud to be a part of helping make these programs and projects possible.” – (Bernick)
The grant presentation and dedication event, held on August 14, featured representatives from the Village of Siren, the Bernick Family Foundation, GDPA board members, and local pickleball enthusiasts.
